Paul Holmgren Addresses Jakub Voracek, Shane Doan & Shea Weber
On Wednesday morning, Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren addressed the assembled media via a conference call in order to discuss the Nashville Predators decision to match the 14-year, $110 million offer sheet submitted to defenseman Shea Weber by the Flyers last week.
Holmgren expressed disappointment in his inability to land the big fish defenseman, stating that he and the organization were hopeful that the Predators would not match the offer.
The Flyers GM made it clear that he likes the team as it currently stands and wanted to add to the on-ice product without subtracting from it.
However, he also said that he wouldn’t rule anything out in the future and that he hopes to improve the team, keeping the door open for future moves through either free agency or trade (but he did say the team would not be tendering offers to any more restricted free agents).

When it came time to discuss specific players, Holmgren stated that the team is close to signing restricted-free agent Jakub Voracek and that he views him as the future winger on the top forward line with Claude Giroux.
Holmgren went onto say that the club was in discussion with the Columbus Blue Jackets for Rick Nash, but the Flyers weren’t heavily pursuing a deal for the newest member of the New York Rangers.
The Flyers are interested in Shane Doan, but Holmgren specified that the Phoenix Coyotes captain wants to stay in Phoenix. If he decides to move on from that situation, then the Flyers will pursue him.
Bobby Ryan's name was mentioned, but Holmgren said that he couldn't talk about a player on another team, although some have mentioned that he hinted at interest in the Cherry Hill native.
