Giroux, Hartnell included in NHL 13 cover competition

For most hockey fans, EA Sports' NHL video game franchise is a favorite past time.

Every year since 1991, the franchise has had a player, players or game scenario appear on the cover of the game.

And every year since 1991, fans have been disgruntled over who it is.

Well, not anymore; EA Sports is allowing the fans to decide who will be the face of NHL 13.

Here is the explanation given on the official website:

“Vote for your favorite player from each NHL team to advance one round closer to making the cover of NHL13. Vote now through April 11.

“Voting is unlimited; for every vote you cast, you will earn one entry into the Cover Vote Sweepstakes for a chance to win a VIP trip to the 2012 NHL Awards™ (up to 10 entries per day). See official rules for more details.”

EA Sports has selected two players from each of the NHL’s 30 teams.

The first round pairs teammates against each other so that each team has one representative.

The Philadelphia Flyers representatives are Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell.

If either individual wins, they will be only the third Flyers player to appear on the cover.

The first was Rod Brind’Amour in a less than flattering picture that saw him being checked by New York Rangers player, Randy Moller on the first EA Sports hockey game, NHL Hockey (1991).

The second instance came when Eric Lindros graced the cover of NHL 99.
