Claude Giroux Vs. Evgeni Malkin: Semifinals Round Of NHL 13 Cover Vote Features Familiar Foes

On Friday afternoon, EA Sports announced the final results for the first round of voting in the quarterfinals match-up for the NHL 13 cover vote.  The Philadelphia Flyers had two representatives in the quarterfinals in the form of superstar forward Claude Giroux and fan favorite, charity man Scott Hartnell.

Giroux, who was matched up against Los Angeles Kings’ forward Anze Kopitar moved onto the semifinals round. Unfortunately, Hartnell was not as lucky as he fell to Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This sets up a superstar showdown between Giroux and Malkin for a spot in the final round.

Giroux defeated Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman P.K. Subban in the first round of voting prior to knocking off Kopitar in the quarterfinal. Malkin knocked off fellow Hart Trophy Finalist, Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning prior to eliminating Hartnell.

Prior to the beginning of the semifinals, the second half of quarterfinals round voting will need to be completed.

Beginning on Friday, fans were allowed to vote on the quarterfinals matchup between Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings and John Tavares of the New York Islanders. In addition, they had the chance to pick between the all-goalie matchup between Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers and Pekka Rinne of the Nashville Predators. Voting for this round will conclude on Wednesday, May 23.

Voting for the semifinals will begin on Thursday, May 24 and will run until Monday, May 28. You can cast your vote, here.
