Black Aces Announced: Leighton, Gustafsson and Zolnierczyk highlight list of reserves

With the Adirondack Phantoms season officially over, the Philadelphia Flyers were able to announce their ‘Black Aces’ squad on Tuesday.

The ‘Black Aces’ are the nickname given to minor league call-ups who are added to the roster just in case one of the regulars goes down due to injury, suspension, etc.

The following are the Flyers list of black aces:

Tyler Brown

Matt Ford

Erik Gustafsson

Ben Holmstrom

Oliver Lauridsen

Michael Leighton

Brandon Manning

Tye McGinn

Harry Zolnierczyk

Obviously, Leighton's name will stand out to many due to the goalie carousel from last year's playoffs. Make no mistake; he is merely on the roster as an emergency reserve. He finished his AHL All-Star season with a record of 28-26-1, with a 2.58 goals against average.

In addition, Ford is a journeyman AHLer who the team acquired from the Washington Capitals system prior to the trade deadline for popular defenseman, Kevin Marshall. Ford has found a scoring touch registering 31 points in 31 games (19-12) since joining the Phantoms.

Gustafsson, Holmstrom, Manning and Zolniercyzk have all played at least one game with the Flyers this year.

Ford, Holmstrom and McGinn all registered double digit goal totals this year.
