Andreas Lilja Should Be Back In November, Says Paul Holmgren

On Sunday morning, news circulated that Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Andreas Lilja required hip surgery.

In a report filed by Swedish news outlet Helsingborgs Dagblad, the 37-year-old defenseman allegedly stated that he expects to miss four months while rehabbing from the surgery, which projects him to be unavailable prior to December of the 2012-13 regular season.

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren disagrees with that opinion.

In a text message sent to Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia, Holmgren confirmed that Lilja has undergone surgery but stated that Lilja will be ready by late October or early November.

Via CSN Philly:

“He did have surgery [and] should be back late October or early November,” Holmgren texted CSNPhilly.com on Sunday afternoon.

Lilja registered six points and averaged 13:41 of ice-time over the course of 46 games in his first season with the Flyers.

He has one year remaining on a two-year contract that carries a cap-hit of $737,500.
