Niko Hovinen Denies Rumors
Niko Hovinen spoke on the rumors he was heading to Finland after the Trenton Titans shootout loss.
“I know what you’re going to ask me,” he said as he stepped into the press room.
With the report swirling that he was leaving for Finland, and the fact that Eric Swanick was signed to backup Scott Wedgewood for a night, the rumors appeared to be true.
However, the Titans claimed that Hovinen was sick and he did not dress due to illness.
“Right now, I feel pretty bad, been sick for three days,” he said.
Hovinen was asked point blank about the rumors and quickly denied them.
“I don’t know,” he said before adding, “I heard about it (Saturday) but, umm, I don’t know, I haven’t heard anything, I haven’t contacted anything (about a possible move). I was kind of shocked when I heard about it.”
He then opened up about how he found out about the rumor.
“My buddy called me from Finland, and he’s like you’re going to this team and I’m like ‘no, no clue’” he said.
When asked about he felt about the Brian Boucher pickup, Hovinen was honest.
“I’m just trying to work on my game here (in Trenton), whatever happens, happens, they (the Flyers) make their decisions, and I just do my best” the goalie said.
He will get the chance to work on his game soon as the schedule picks up and the Titans have a lot of games upcoming.
Coach Vince Williams called the stretch “the dog days” after Sunday’s game, so Hovinen will, health willing, get a chance to play.
