Marshall Traded to Caps

Phantoms defenseman Kevin Marshall, who will most likely be remembered most for his dance in HBO's 24/7 series, was shipped to the Capitals Thursday afternoon for forward Matt Ford.

Marshall was drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the 2007 draft. The 6-foot 1-inch native of Boucherville, Quebec never made the impact that would be expected given his draft position.

It's been no secret that the Flyers have had trouble developing young defensemen in the past. Whether or not Marshall was a victim of the system or himself is yet to be seen. However, in 10 games with Philadelphia this season, Marshall failed to register a point.

With fellow draftee Marc Andre Bourdon playing well in his role on the team and Erik Gustafsson's return from injury, the Flyers obviously saw Marshall as a moveable commodity.

It's unclear if the move was made simplty as a depth move for the Phantoms with injuries creating a ripple effect throughout the organization. It could also be the first of a few dominos to fall with the all of the trade winds swirling around the Flyers.

Time will tell. For now, all anyone knows is that Matt Ford is property of the Flyers and Kevin Marshall never lived up to expectations.

Here is a bit about Ford's career.
