Game Day Preview: Flyers Storm Into Boston

The Philadelphia Flyers spent all of yesterday trapped in their hotel as the snow storm that blew through Philadelphia slammed the Boston area.

Tonight the Flyers will face the Bruins in TD Garden Arena at 7:00 PM EST. The Flyers are coming off a 5-2 win on Tuesday night in Buffalo. Danny Briere would grab four points on the evening with one goal and three assists, and Scott Hartnell had a three point night netting two goals, the first (PPG) and the last (EN) and one assist.

The Boston Bruins are coming off a six nothing shutout over the Ottawa Senators. Tim Thomas picked up his league leading sixth shutout of the season while Patrice Bergeron grabbed the hattrick scoring a goal in every period.

This will be the third of four meetings between these two teams, they have split the previous two games. The Bruins are looking for their third straight win tonight while the Flyers will try to stay undefeated for 2011.

The Bruins are a stingy team as they are surrendering just over two goals per game at 2.10, they also lead the league in shutouts with seven. The Flyers are third in the league in goals for averaging 3.36 goals per game but were shutout by Boston 3-0 in Philly on Dec 11th .

This should be a good matchup tonight as these two teams bring the best out of each other and has now become a rivalry it once was in the seventies. The Bruins and the Flyers are pretty much the same in power play success at 17.2%, for the 18th and 19th spot respectively.

Boston is much better on the penalty kill than the Flyers and are sixth in the league with an 84.7% kill rate, the Flyers are 15th at 82.3% . Look for a physical game tonight as each team will look to set the tone early.

In The Nets

Probable Starters;

The Flyers are expected to go with Boucher tonight against the Bruins,this will sort of be a home coming for him as he is from New England. Boosh is 9-1-1 in his last eleven starts with a 1.97 GAA.

The Bruins will be putting up the wall tonight when they start Tim Thomas who is 19-4-6 with a 1.71 GAA and a .946 SV% . He is 1-1 this year versus the Flyers with a 3-0 shutout and most recently the 2-1 OT loss , which Mike Richards netted the game winner .

Larry's Logic

The important thing for the Flyers is to grab at least one goal on the power play tonight as this is their strongest area. The need to get the lead first tonight, they can't let Boston get the lead tonight and if they do the Flyers will need to respond right away.

If the Bruins get up a couple goals it will be tough to get one through on Thomas, although he is not perfect, as the Habs got to him late the other night scoring a couple late goals to win the game when he was protecting a shutout.

The Flyers better bring their lunch pails as they need to turn in a solid sixty minute effort tonight.

Comic Book Hockey

If you haven't already seen this, Stan Lee has created super heroes out of all 30 teams and they are all part of the Guardian League, kind of like the Justice League.Here is the link to all the heroes. My personal favorites are of course the Flyers, Wild, Predator, Devil and Blackhawks, which are your favorites ?

LOVE the guardians. I think the Shark and the Oiler are my favorites so far. I love how they're just blatant rip offs of Marvel characters lmao.
