Game Day: Flyers / Predators

The Philadelphia Flyers (33-13-5) look to rebound from their lethargic effort in Tampa Bay, where they were out hustled and out scored 4-0.

Tonight the Flyers kick off a four game homestand when they face the Nashville Predators (27-17-7) at the Wells Fargo Center. This homestand could be just what they need to get this team back to form as they went 4-1 in their last five home games.

Matchup

This is the first and only time these two teams will meet in the regular season this year. Last season was the first time in four years these two teams met. The Flyers would lose in Nashville 4-3 in a shootout.

The Flyers and Preds seem to be at .500 versus one and other with the Flyers having an over all record of 5-5-3, home record of 3-3-1 and a road record of 2-2-2. Nashville is in fourth place in the Western Conference with 61 points, and are in the eleventh spot in the league.

Nashville has overcome some adversity this season losing 187 man games to injury. The Preds are fourth in the league in GAA surrendering just 2.33 goals per game. Pekka Rinne has been tough to beat and is sporting a 2.10 GAA.

This will be the second game in a row the Flyers will be facing a hot goalie, not to mention the Flyers often struggle when facing goalies they don't face often. The Preds are 27th out of 30 in power play percentage with a 14% success rate.

Patric Hornqvist leads the team in goals with 16 while Shea Webber leads the team in points with 31 (9g,22a) grabbing fifteen points in his last sixteen games.

Larry's Logic

Look for the Flyers to put in a better effort tonight against the Predators, does that mean the Flyers will win ? Not necessarily as the Flyers could still struggle to find the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Flyers they will have to figure out how to beat Pekka Rinne who is second in the league in GAA (2.10) and save percentage(.929).

The Flyers just don't need a quantity of shots tonight, they need quality shots. Make Rinne move side to side, getting good screens giving them a chance to grab some trash goals.

They need to really turn up the forecheck tonight and put the pressure on in the offensive zone, something they could not get going on Tuesday night in Tampa.

They really need to play better in their defensive zone tonight and not hang Boosh or Bob out to dry. They should be ready tonight as it is rare for this team not to respond to Laviolette after a poor effort.
