Game Day Flyers / Maple Leafs

The Philadelphia Flyers (40-16-6) are coming off an eventful four day lay off, their last one of the season as they will be playing just about every night until the end of the regular season.

A day after the Flyers suffered a brutal 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators they held their 34th annual Flyers Wives Fight for Live charity Carnival.

Fun and Games

This Carnival is the oldest and most successful one-day charity events held by a professional sports franchise. They have raised more than 23 million dollars since the first carnival was held on February 1, 1977.

It is a great chance for the fans to interact with the current team and alumni as they have autograph sessions and they also work the boardwalk style games.

There is also a chance for fans to take a shot on goal versus the Flyers goalies or if you would like to try your hand at the dunk tank and sink a Flyers player.

Many teams throughout the league have charity events and many times contact the Flyers for advice as their Carnival is the standard that all the teams try to grow their charities into.

Back to The Grind

When all the fun subsided and Monday's trade deadline came and went with the Flyers making a minor move trading Phantom Greg Moore and prospect Michael Chaput to Columbus for Tom Sestito, a 6'5 230 offensively talented bruiser.

If you would like to know more about him here is Adam Pardes interview with him just moments after he was acquired.

The Flyers had some tough practices leading up to tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs (28-27-9). They worked on their power play which is in bad shape right now and also were put through some tough skates working on their conditioning as well with hopes of the Flyers jumping out to a fast start, unlike their normal lethargic play after a four day break.

They lost Dan Carcillo to illness and JVR to a lower body injury (groin) during those four days and will not be in the lineup this evening. The Flyers did reach down to the Phantoms and call up LW Ben Holmstrom for a little insurance.

The Flyers will be facing an unknown goalie tonight when they face James Reimer tonight. It is usually a bad thing when the Flyers face a goalie for the first time. He is 6-0-3 in his last ten with a 2.06 GAA which does not bode well for the Flyers.

Line Changes

Look for the lines to be a little jumbled tonight because of Carcillo and JVR are out tonight. Seems like Blair Betts and Chris Pronger are probable for tonight and should be in the line up tonight.

Darrol Powe may take the face-offs for Blair Betts tonight as he is still healing from his finger laceration.

Here are some possible line combos tonight with Zherdev and Nodl being inter changeable.

Nodl - Richards - Versteeg
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Zherdev - Giroux - Carter
Shelley - Betts - Powe

I have seen conficting reports on who will be the starter in goal tonight. With my bets guess I will stick with the Bobrovsky starting tonight report.

Eager to Know Steeger

Here is NHL On The Fly Access video of Versteeg and his thoughts as he is mic'd up a practice.

We've been having problems with bad teams lately, so tonight makes me a little nervous. Glad to maybe get Pronger back and who needs Carcillo anyway? I hope Laviollete worked them extra hard in practice, which it sounds like they did.
