Game Day: Flyers / Devils

The Philadelphia Flyers (15-7-4) are coming off a shutout loss to the Boston Bruins and are in the midst of a three game slide.

They will face the New Jersey Devils (8-15-2) who are coming off a blowout loss to the Canadiens after beating the Flyers just a week ago.

Matchup

With the way each of these two teams lost their last game, one would think the Flyers and the Devils will come out tonight in attack mode. The Flyers more so, as the Devils were just righting their ship having won four straight home games before Thursday's loss to the Habs. The Devils will be looking for the first regulation win in Philly since Dec. 4 2008.

The Flyers are on that three game losing streak and are looking to not make it four, which would be a season high for them. They will also be looking to avenge last week's loss and tie this season series at one.

In The Nets
Probable Starters;

Flyers will probably go with Sergei Bobrovsky who is 12-4-2 2.18 GAA .926 SV%. He was just named rookie of the month of November. He went 7-1-2 2,01 GAA and a .931 save percentage and is tied fourth in wins with 12, sixth in goals against, and sixth in save percentage.

The last Flyers rookie to win rookie of the month honors was JVR last year, and that month, November.

The Devils with Brodeur still out they will likely go with Johan Hedberg 4-4-1 2.91 GAA .903 SV%. He has a great record versus the Flyers lately going 4-0 with a 1.47 GAA in his last four starts against them.

He made 40 saves in last week's game against the Flyers. Most recently he is coming off a game against the habs where he let in two goals on three shots and was pulled just 1:38 seconds into the game.

Larry's Logic

The Flyers again took the time to work on the power play in practice, this time splitting into two groups. One unit had Giroux, Briere and Hartnell together and the other unit had Richards, Carter, and Leino with Pronger and Timonen back for them and Carle and Meszaros for Briere's line.

One of the looks had Chris Pronger screening in front on 4-3 and 5-3 drills, he was not in front on the 5-4 drills. The Flyers have enough shots on defense where they can afford to put Pronger down low.

They should use him there all game during the PP and see what happens , he scored 3 goals during those drills. The Flyers seemed to not be playing with the same emotion they started the season with. What ever it is they need to do to get that back needs to start tonight, with this game, against this team.

Offensive Stats

The Flyers are averaging 3.8 goals a game and are struggling on the power play going 2 for 37 in their last eight games. Mike Richards has struggled lately, no goals in his last five games and Claude Giroux has been pointless in his last five dispite needing just 2 pts to reach 100 for his career.

The Devils are averaging 1.8 goals per game and have also struggled on the power play going 1-23 in their last eight games.Kovalchuk has no goals in his last eight while Travis Zajac has none in his last eleven.

Commercial Flyers

The Flyers Mike Richards, Claude Giroux, Sergei Bobrovsky recently shot a commercial for Verizon Wireless which hasn't aired yet, here is a little article.
