Game Day: Flyers / Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers will travel to Boston tonight to take on the Boston Bruins at TD Garden at 7:00 pm.

This will be the Flyers first visit back to the scene of the crime from last year's playoffs where the Flyers stole the game and the series from the Boston Bruins and there fans.

The Flyers are coming off a 4-1 road win Thursday night against the Maple Leafs, while the Bruins are coming off a 5-2 win against the Islanders, a game in which Boston didn't put away until the last half of the third period. Boston would score three of their five goals on special teams, 2 pp 1 sh.

The Flyers will enter this evening leading the NHL in goals for with 103 and 5th at 2.40 goals per game. They will be facing a miserly Boston Bruins team that is not in the spirit of giving this holiday season.

They lead the league in goals against with 1.89 and have surrendered just 51 goals this season. The last time these two teams met was Dec 1st when Tim Thomas and the Boston Bruins blanked the Flyers 3-0.

Tim Thomas played out of his mind stopping all 41 shots he faced. Sergei Bobrovsky played a good game letting up two goals as the Bruins added an empty netter at the end. The first Bruins goals was a power play goal scored by Patrice Bergeron.

The Bruins were 1-2 on the power play that night with 2:49 of power play time, while the Flyers were 0-4 with 8:00 of power play time.

The Flyers have scored two power play goals in their last three games.

In The Nets

The Flyers have announced that Brian Boucher (4-3-2) 2.40 GAA .911 SV% will get the nod today against the bruins. He is coming off a solid effort versus the Leafs on Thursday night where he surrendered just one goal on 32 shots.

The Bruins will go with Tim Thomas (14-2-2) - 5 SO, 1.49 GAA, .955 SV% - tonight as he was stellar in their last meeting. He has surrendered five goals in his last three starts grabbing two wins and an OT shoot out loss.

Larry's Logic

The Flyers will have to man up tonight in the unfriendly confines of TD Garden and try to grab control early. They need to get traffic in front of Thomas and keep the shots low. He can not have clean sight of point shots, he can be taken off his game with heavy traffic.

He clearly showed all of us what he can do last game when he had good sight of the puck. Tonight would be a good game to put Pronger up front on all power plays as he and Chara take up a lot of real estate. His shot would be missed from the point but there are capable players waiting to step in like Carle or Meszaros. The need to make their power play opportunities count as Thomas is hard to beat even strength.

There was some Twitter chatter as I started to write this preview of Dan Carcillo possibly getting in the line up tonight as Shelley and Zherdev were both skating after all players had left the ice. Keep an eye on that situation as Carcillo will make his time count if he does crack the lineup tonight.

Step Up Players

Carcillo - if he dresses

Zherdev - If he plays, he needs to step up to stay in the line up

This is going to be a nice little preview for me as the Habs are playing both the Flyers and Bruins next week... should be a good one.

Yeah Flyers have a tough stretch ahead of them, The Hab's game should be pretty cool in 3D tonight especially against a rival even though they suck Stare

Always scary playing the Bruins. Bests goals for against best goals against, should be a good one. You're right about needing to pound home rebounds on Thomas. "The scene of the crime"....I like that b\c that was pure robbery! Wink
