Flyers Look For Whale Of A Game VS. Islanders
The Flyers are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, a game the Flyers surrendered another lead in the third period.
The New York Islanders are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a battle of suckass teams. It was the Islanders fourth loss in their last twelve games.
This is the fourth of six meetings between these two teams this season. The Flyers are 3-0 this season versus the Islanders. Sergei Bobrovsky has won all three of those games and is expected to be in net tonight trying to extend that winning streak to four.
This may be the game that Andreas Nodl will get to join the double digit goal group as he has scored three times in the Flyers three previous games versus the Isles .The Flyers have dominated the Isles winning 18 of their last nineteen matchups and have a lifetime record of 117-88-26 and a home record of 69-33-11.
The Flyers are still leading the Eastern Conference with 84 points,Nine points ahead of the second place Tampa Bay Lightning. They are one point behind the Vancouver Canucks in the race for the president's trophy.
With 21 games remaining the Isles are twelve points out of the eight playoff spot currently occupied by the Carolina Hurricanes. The Isles are 7-3 in their last ten, the Flyers are 6-3-1. The Isles have the edge in the power play department, but who doesn't ? The Flyers have the edge on the penalty kill.
The Flyers need to dictate the play tonight as often times they will play down to their competition. With the way the Isles have been playing lately the Flyers cannot afford to take this team light. John Tavares is a Flyer killer and will need to be tightly checked, he leads the Isles in points and assists and currently trails Mikael Grabner by two goals for the scoring lead.
The Flyers will also be facing Al Montoya tonight as he will be in net for the Isles. He has been playing well since starting for the Islanders who have had goalie issues for a while now, ironic as their GM Garth Snow, a former Flyers goalie.
Montoya is 3-1 with a 1.42 GAA and a .946 SV%. The Flyers usually struggle scoring against goalies who they never have faced or rarely face. With the Flyers struggling to score recently, tonight may be no different for this team.
If they let the Isles hang around like they did against the Coyotes they could suffer the same fate. The Isles are fighting for a playoff spot and as far fetched as it seems, mathematically they still have a chance, and will no doubt give a good effort tonight.
You should feel extra safe from Virus's tonight if you are heading to the Wells Fargo Center for the game tonight. McAfee, leading virus software protection company will be in the house demonstrating it's newest corporate security solutions.
The reason I bring this up is I will be in their box tonight to listen to their hour discussion and then watch the game from the box with all food and beverages included.
This will be my first game of the season and would be a perfect night for the Flyers to end their scoring slump and grab a shutout along the way.
Special thanks to Adam and Wayne from the security team here at my work for getting me invited to the event.
