Flyers Look For Better Start and Finish Tonight Against The Isles

UPDATE - Danny Briere will be in tonight's line up against the Islanders.

The Philadelphia Flyers (30-16-6) flubbed their shot at closing the gap in the Atlantic Division when they lost both afternoon matchups this weekend to the New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers .

The Flyers were out-scored 11-6 in those games and surrendered goals at both the beginning and the end of periods.

In the Devils matchup on Saturday afternoon, the Flyers surrendered a goal at the three minute mark of the first period and surrendered two in the last minute of the first.
The second period did not fare any better for the Flyers as the Devils scored two goals in the first two minutes, 38 seconds into the period on the power play (Zach Parise), and then a minute later from Alex Ponikarovsky giving the Devils the 5-0 lead.
The next day in New York would start off similar to the Devils game, this time the Rangers' first goal would come just 1:04 into the first. The Rangers would hold onto the 1-0 lead until six seconds left in the second period, when Marion Gaborik squeeked one by Ilya Bryzgalov.
The Flyers would open the scoring on the power play just 57 seconds into the third period on a goal by Wayne Simmonds. The Rangers answered back just 36 seconds later when Michael Del Zotto gave the Rangers the lead for good.
They have been surrendering goals in the firsts and last minutes of periods all season and has become a trend lately. David Strehle broke it down here.  Look for the Flyers to get their bodies in front of more shots tonight while trying not to screen their goaltender. In the last two games, opponents have blocked 49 shots compared to the Flyers 14.
This team needs a shot in the arm and they will get that tonight as Danny Briere has practiced the past two days with contact after missing six games with concussion symptoms. He will be in the lineup tonight.
This is the fourth of six meetings between the Flyers and the New York Islanders (21-22-8). The Islanders broke a five year 13 game winless streak in Philly on January 19th when they beat the Flyers 4-1.
The Flyers are 2-1 against the Islanders this season and enter tonight's game losers of two in a row. The Flyers have yet to lose three in a row this season.
The Islanders picked up three of four in their last two games and have earned points in their last four.
Sergei Bobrovsky is 7-1 lifetime versus the Islanders, the loss came when he was in net during the January 19th Islander win.
Evgeni Nabokov collected a season high 40 saves in that same January 19th matchup
The Flyers have a power play goal in 7 straight games.
John Tavares has an 11 game point streak against the Flyers
The Islanders are 10-11-3 on the road this season
The Flyers have surrendered a total of 156 goals this season while the Islanders have surrendered 150.
Hairy Situation
The NHL has decided not to fine Tom Sestito of the Philadelphia Flyers for his alleged hair pulling of New York Rangers' winger Brandon Prust.
He was kicked out of the game against the Rangers for engaging in three fights, during a game where he amassed a whopping 25 penalty minutes compared to his 3:48 TOI.
He is making the most out of his opportunity and may have just taken over the enforcer role on this team.
