Vincent Lecavalier Out 3-4 Weeks

According to Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren, forward Vincent Lecavalier will miss 3-to-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his lower back.

"He had an x-ray in Dallas and we found something on the x-ray that didn't look right," Holmgren said to reporters on Sunday evening. "[We] got him back to Philadelphia this morning just to get him back in our own doctor's hands and he had an MRI."

Lecavalier experienced back spasms during the third period of a 3-2 shootout win against Nashville on November 30. After missing games against Minnesota, Detroit and Dallas, he returned to Philadelphia for further evaluation.

"We're going to treat it when we can as aggressively as we have to right now," Holmgren added. "We told him to rest for a few days to get some of the discomfort out and we'll go from there."

Lecavalier will perhaps be benefitted by the rather light schedule during the week of Christmas, but he will miss a total of 13 games if his recovery takes the full four weeks. The bad news, however, is that the Flyers are 2-5 without him in the lineup.

The 33-year-old had previously missed three games with a lower body injury in mid October, and took a one-game absence after facial injuries received after a rather infamous line brawl on November 1 against Washington.

Lecavalier had been off to a torrid start as a Flyer, having been tied for the team lead in goals with nine. Five of his nine goals came on the power play. He also tallied five assists.

Additionally, Holmgren expects to make a call-up from Adirondack (AHL) to take Lecavalier's place in the lineup for Monday's tilt against Ottawa instead of making a deal elsewhere.
