UPDATE: Scott Hartnell Out 4-8 Weeks With Broken Foot
The bad news from yesterday has spread into tonight.
Flyers LW Scott Hartnell will be out 4-8 weeks according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Holmgren said Hartnell has a broken foot.
"We sort of know what it is, a broken first metatarsal in his left foot," said Holmgren before the game. "Right now we’re trying to decide, we’re talking to the doctor about the best way to proceed with it, in terms of how to approach it. I can’t give you a time frame, it’s probably, gonna be between four to eight weeks depending on how significant the injury is."
Holmgren added that Hartnell broke the extension of his big toe.
Hartnell was injured late in Tuesday's game. Hartnell took a Kimmo Timonen slap shot off his left foot. Hartnell was limping noticely after the game, keeping ice on his foot.
Holmgren said that he will pursue a trade to replace Hartnell.
"We’re looking around obviously," said Holmgren. "Scott, he’s a big loss, because of how he plays the game. And to have him out at any length of time is difficult. Whether it’s a month to two months it’s a tough pill to swallow but we’ll see what we can do."
