Harry Z, Holmstrom called up
In a tweet from the Philadelphia Inquirer's Sam Carchidi, it appears the Flyers have made a couple of moves.
"Holmstrom, Harry Z on ice with Flyers, who have been hit by injuries. Is Walker going down to ADR?"
Though it most likely won't be officially announced tomorrow, the Flyers have sent little-used defenseman Matt Walker packing and headed to Adirondack while recalling forwards Harry Zolnierczyk and Ben Holmstrom.
The moves for Zolnierczyk and Holmstrom make sense seeing as forwards Danny Briere and Matt Read will not play in Wednesday's game at Buffalo. Read will not play in Thursday's home game against the Devils but Briere is a possibility to return.
In his only NHL game of his career, Zolnierczyk registered his first career goal in the Flyers 7-2 rout of the Ottawa Senators on October 18. Holmstrom is making his first appearances of the season, playing in two games last season without registering a point.
In Adirondack, Zolnierczyk has five goals and four assists in 10 games. Holmstrom, who is the captain of the Phantoms, has only four assists in eight games played this season in the AHL.
Chris Pronger was also placed on the seven-day IR retroactive to last Tuesday and is eligible to come off today. But the captain won't come off of IR today, freeing up a roster spot for the Flyers which they used to bring up the second forward.
Pronger is seeing an eye doctor today. At the very best, the captain could be back on the ice tomorrow, skating for the first time since taking a stick to the eye last Monday.
With the moves today, the Flyers now have 23 players and have $392,000 of cap room.
