Free Agency 2012: Defenseman Shea Weber Signs 14-Year Offer Sheet With Flyers

The Flyers want their number one defenseman.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger on Twitter, restricted free agent defenseman Shea Weber has signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers. The news comes at nearly 1 AM EST.

The offersheet is a 14-year deal worth upwards to $100 million. The Predators have up to seven days to match the Flyers offer or they will receive compensation from Philadelphia for the loss of one of the best defenseman in the NHL.

Dreger said that the Predators could receive two first round picks, a second and a third rounder if they decide to let Weber sign with the Flyers.

According to Dregor, many teams were interested in attempting to acquire Weber via trade but too many deadlines had passed and the Flyers grew impatient and made an offer to Weber he couldn't refuse.

It's a win-win for the Flyers. They either get their man in Weber, or if the offer is matched by Nashville the Flyers will have successfully blocked the Rangers and Penguins from trying to get him.

Stay tuned to TCL. We will have more on this later in the day.
