Flyers Sign RW Mike Knuble

Coming less than an hour after Scott Hartnell's injury was made known, the Flyers went out and found a replacement.

The Flyers have signed 40-year-old right winger Mike Knuble. The deal is for one year and is worth $750,000.

Earlier in the day, the Flyers waived Titans goalie Nikko Hovinen to clear a contract on the 50-man limit. That move turned out to be retroactive to this signing.

Knuble had a massive down year last year with the Captials. His six goals and 12 assists were his lowest totals since the 1999-2000 season, and first sub-20 goal season since 2002-03.

Knuble was a Flyer from 2005-2009, playing four seasons. In those four seasons, he tallied 114 goals.

Despite his age, Knuble is a big-bodied forward. At 6'3", 227 pounds, Knuble made a name for himself by screening goalies and scoring garbage goals.

His intelligence and leadership skills also speak for themselves. Overall it's a good signing for the Flyers in need of veteran depth and physical leaders.
