Flyers send Morin back to juniors; Trim roster to 22

It looks like Flyers fans will have to wait to see Samuel Morin on a regular basis.

General manager Ron Hextall stuck with his patience plan, sending the 19-year-old defenseman prospect back to Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Friday. The Flyers also trimmed their roster down to 22 players, waiving three players in hopes they land in Lehigh Valley.

Goaltender Robb Zepp and forwards Jay Rosehill and Chris VandeVelde were all placed on waivers on Friday. They join three players sent to Lehigh on Wednesday.

By waiving those two forwards, the Flyers will be without a true enforcer on their roster. The fourth line could also be a very skilled unit, something the team hasn't had since 2009-10.

One of the players surviving cuts is Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, who will become just the ninth ever French-born to play in the NHL.

The Flyers roster now looks like this heading into Wednesday's opening night matchup against the Bruins:

Forwards (13): Jason Akeson, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Sean Couturier, Claude Giroux, Blair Jones, Vincent Lecavalier, Michael Raffl, Matt Read, Zac Rinaldo, Brayden Schenn, Wayne Simmonds, R.J. Umberger Jakub Voracek.

Defensemen (7): Braydon Coburn, Michael Del Zotto, Nicklas Grossmann, Andrew McDonald, Luke Schenn, Nick Schultz, Mark Streit.

Goalies (2): Ray Emery, Steve Mason.

Simmonds update: It's still "up in the air" if Wayne Simmonds, who is day-to-day, will play Wednesday, Craig Berube said.
