Flyers Invite Veteran D Hal Gill to Training Camp

The Flyers are looking to add veteran defensive depth this season.

That is why they have invited veteran defenseman Hal Gill to training camp. Generaln manager Paul Holmgren has already stated that you can't have too many defensemen and this is just another sign of that.

Gill, 38, was signed to a Player Try-Out contract. If the Flyers do decide to sign him they will need to clear some cap space - over $1 million - or wait until Chris Pronger is put on LTIR.

The 6'7", 24-pound Gill has played parts of 16 seasons in the NHL. Known for his defense mainly, Gill has 36 goals and 148 assists for 184 points and 960 penalty minutes in 1,102 career games.

Gill has a history of staying fairly healthy too, having averaged 73.5 games played per season (92%).
