CSN: Flyers Will Name Claude Giroux Captain On Thursday

According to league sources, the Flyers will name Claude Giroux the captain on Thursday in front of 19,000 fans.

The Flyers are holding an open practice at the Wells Fargo Center for fans on Thursday, and are said to announce Giroux will become the 19th captain in team history.

Originally rumors were that the Flyers would do it today with Chris Pronger, the current captain, being in Voorhees. Pronger, who hasn't played since November 19, 2011, is doubtful to ever return to hockey.

Giroux has the endorsements of his teammates, including Scott Hartnell on Friday and Danny Briere today. Briere called Giroux a great leader and said he is ready to be a captain.
