Canadiens vs Flyers Preview
The Philadelphia Flyers and the Montréal Canadiens will battle tonight at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. The winner gains an advantage in the race to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
These two teams are desperate for a win and both come in struggling. The Flyers are just 1-5-1 in their last seven and can’t seem to put together a consistent effort. They definitely are missing goaltender Michael Leighton. Brian Boucher has struggled in net going in the last nine games he has a record of 2-4-2 and a 3.15 GAA. The Flyers showed a poor effort last night against the New York Islanders. They allowed three first period goals and were never able to come back eventually losing 6-4.
Meanwhile, the Canadiens are just 1-3-2 in their last six. Jaroslav Halak has taken over as starting goaltender and has done well for the Canadiens posting a 1.97 GAA, but is 1-2-1 in his last four starts. The offense has struggled scoring only more than two goals once since March 20. The Canadiens lost to the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday 2-1 in a game which they outshot the Hurricanes but wasn’t able to pull off the victory.
Look for the game to have a playoff atmosphere. Both teams are fighting for their playoff lives and can’t afford any more loses. The Candiens and Flyers are both currently tied with the Boston Bruins at 82 points each. The Flyers have one more win then the Bruins in seventh and two more wins then the Canadiens in eighth. These three teams are only up two points on the Atlanta Thrashers who are in ninth.
