Kings claim Jones
TSN's Bob McKenzie is reporting that Randy Jones has been claimed off of waivers by the Los Angeles Kings.
I was able to quick talk to Flyers' Beat Writer Tim Panaccio last night, and he told me that the Flyers are on the hook for $1.3 million of Jones' $2.75 million dollar salary.
I like Jones a lot. After seeing the play of Coburn, Pronger and Timonen, I think that Jones could have been a solid defenseman for the Flyers in the back end. Not to mention how poorly the play of Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Danny Syvret have been.
He may be a bit overpriced, but look at what the above mentioned defensemen have been doing for the Flyers. They haven't been playing too well in the defensive end.
He doesn't make stupid mistakes and his name isn't called often. And in a fifth or sixth defensemen - that is what you want. A d-man that knows his role on the team and doesn't make stupid mistakes.
Jones is a great team guy and has great character. He is one of the most sincere and nicest Flyers I've ever dealt with. I understand he was a cap casualty, but it's tough to see someone like Jones go after seeing what the Flyers back-end has looked like thus far.
Paying Randy Jones 1.3 millions dollars to leave our team doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.
Also, I've learned that Blair Betts and Ryan Parent will most likely be returning to the line-up this Saturday against Carolina. A game that I will be attending.
