For the first time this postseason, the Flyers will be playing in an elimination game. Down 3-1 in their series to the Devils, they’re on the brink and fighting to keep their Stanley Cup dreams alive. The series was supposed to be one the Flyers breezed by, but now tonight in Philadelphia, it’s a must-win (TCL Flyers). The whole series has been very interesting in a way (RLD Hockey).
The Devils have completely outworked the Flyers for just about the whole series. Tonight they’ll expect a stronger effort from the Flyers though (CSNPhilly) as the Orange and Black have proved time and time again they can come back (CSNPhilly). They need to turn it around not only tonight but also the next three games (The 700 Level).
Claude Giroux’s suspension (TCL Flyers) will give the Flyers a little extra motivation to beat the Devils. He is still very confident that the team can rally (The Inquirer) and pull out a win without him (CSNPhilly). Maybe it will be the turning point of the series, as this is the Flyers’ chance for a galvanizing moment (SBNation Philly). However, he is a superstar and someone must step up in his absence. Who could it possibly be (CSNPhilly)?
Around the league, the Phoenix Coyotes are the latest team to advance...
After beating the Predators 2-1 in regulation last night (NHL.com), the ‘Yotes took their series 4-1, and they really did deserve to advance (RLD Hockey). They’ll face the Los Angeles Kings, who swept the Blues. It’s going to be a goaltender showdown for sure with Mike Smith and Jonathan Quick. Meanwhile, the Rangers scored with 6.6 seconds left in the third, then went on to beat the Capitals 3-2 in overtime (NHL.com).
