Link Checks 5/1/2012
For a very long time in NHL history, the Flyers feared the Devils because of how good they were. That is no longer a factor (Broad Street Buzz).
The Flyers lead the series 1-0, and are looking to make it 2-0 tonight before heading to New Jersey (TCL Flyers). They’ll have to take advantage of the fact that Ilya Kovalchuk will not be in the lineup for the Devils (TCL Flyers). He is a big loss to their team (CSNPhilly).
The Flyers defense did shut Kovalchuk down in Game 1 (CSNPhilly), and now they’ll look even better with him out of the lineup. Braydon Coburn was relied on heavily, and he did a great job. Coach Laviolette, who has the team firing on all cylinders (Daily News), said so himself (CSNPhilly).
The 2011-12 Flyers are a team with great variety, when it comes to age. There’s Jaromir Jagr, who has a rather odd playoff beard (The 700 Level), that is an aging legend. Then there’s the young Sean Couturier who is getting better and better as time goes on (CSNPhilly). Jagr still has the skill (Delco Times), but him and other old guys like Kubina can get winded. The mix of the youth and elderly is important to the team’s success (The Inquirer).
There were two playoff games last night...
The Capitals evened up their series with the Rangers’ with a 3-2 regulation win (NHL.com). The Kings, who are part of the Pacific Division which took the Western Conference by storm (RLD Hockey), took a 2-0 series lead over the Blues (NHL.com).
The Flyers and Devils are the only teams in action tonight. The Rangers and Caps along with the Preds and Yotes will resume their series’ tomorrow evening.
