The Philadelphia Flyers are five points behind the Rangers, who are leading their division. The Washington Capitals are five points behind the Panthers, who are also leading their division. The Flyers and Caps will face-off tonight, in what can be considered a ‘must-win’ for both squads (TCLFlyers). Ovechkin has five goals in his last four games while Bryzgalov is 8-1-1 this month. It’s going to be a Russian showdown in the Wells Fargo Center (The Inquirer).
The Flyers must get off on a fast start because falling behind every game is risky business (CSNPhilly). Wayne Simmonds would like to start the scoring, as he’s been working very hard to bust his scoring slump (CSNPhilly). Jaromir Jagr, who is living out his dream playing hockey (Flyers Faithful), will also want to get back on the score sheet. He’s been playing on the Flyers top line almost all season thanks to not Peter Laviolette, but Paul Holmgren (Frequent Flyers).
The Flyers’ rookies this season have had such a huge impact on the team’s success. From skilled players like Sean Couturier, who has been developing greatly (NHL.com), to tough guys like Zac Rinaldo, who has the coach’s full support (CSNPhilly), they’ve all played an important role. While Rinaldo may be considered just a fighter, he does want to expand his role and not just be one-dimensional (Delco Times).
The rookies will have to continue helping the Flyers out if they want to make a push to catch the Rangers...
