Breaking records and reaching milestones all while earning two points; day by day.
The Flyers are really starting to consistently do exactly that. Five players are already having career highs in several different categories. In last night’s game, Kimmo Timonen picked up his 200th career point as a Flyers, and Bryzgalov broke shutout records all in the 3-2 win over the Islanders (TCLFlyers). The netminder has everything going in the right direction for him now (SB Nation Philly).
Of course the team had a part in his shutout streak too, clearing away rebounds and cutting down the Islanders’ chances. The penalty kill has also looked better than ever recently (Daily News). They handled the pressure just fine (TCLFlyers).
Rookie Matt Read had a part in the good penalty kill, and while he is technically a rookie, he is 25 years old. Because of his age, he shouldn’t be a player to worry about down the stretch like other rookies (CSNPhilly). He has shown Calder Trophy potential, but it’s very unlikely because of Gabriel Landeskog (Puck Daddy).
Speaking of rookies, defenseman Brandon Manning has been sent back down to the Phantoms (@PhantomsHockey). He will have his eyes on the Phantoms’ stretch run into the playoffs (PostStar).
The Penguins are streaking and the Rangers didn’t get in their way...

Cooke scored two goals as the Penguins easily skated to victory, winning 5-2 (NHL.com).
While the Devils didn’t win by as big of a margin, they still picked up two points. They took down J.S. Giguere and the Avalanche 1-0 in the shootout (NHL.com).
