The weekend started out great, but ended in disorder for the Flyers.
Everything was clicking for the Flyers (TCLFlyers) heading into Saturday, and they won in a shootout over the Leafs that night (TCLFlyers). The only goal came from Claude Giroux, and it’s unfair to even use words to describe the move he used to put it in the net. It was amazing to say the least (TCLFlyers). Giroux himself called it “The Datsyuk.”
The Flyers were riding a five game win streak and it seemed like nothing could stop them (TCLFlyers). In the next game, Giroux once again got the only goal for the Flyers. It was unfortunately not the only goal of the game though like it was Saturday night. Bobrovsky started to give Bryzgalov rest, and he was sharp until the Devils first powerplay, which gave them a 1-0 lead. They went on to score three more goals and won by a 4-1 score (TCLFlyers). They were just completely outworked (Laviolette Interview: CSN). To summarize the past six or seven games for the Flyers, it’s actually quite weird (TCLFlyers).
Bryzgalov will, and should be (SBNation Philly), back in net and ready to go Tuesday night. He’s been named the NHL’s first star of the week (Frequent Flyers). He may not be the only one back in action Tuesday. Jakub Voracek, who has been suffering from concussion-like symptoms, is a possibility for the home game vs the Devils (CSNPhilly). Also, the big man in front of Bryzgalov, Nicklas Grosmann, is feeling at home playing with the team (Philly.com).
While the Flyers win streak was broken, the Penguins win streak was again increased...
In their NINTH straight win, the Pens dominated the 2nd place Bruins and won 5-2 (FOXSports). The Atlantic Division race isn’t over just yet (Crimespree Hockey), as the Penguins are now just four points away from the Rangers.
The Rangers did win yesterday, although it wasn’t easy. They won 4-3 in overtime against the lowly Islanders.
The Islanders loss just further diminished their playoff hopes (TCL Isles).
