Ilya Bryzgalov went 65 minutes without allowing a single goal. However, neither did Islanders goal Evgeni Nabokov. In a goaltender duel, the Islanders won 1-0 in the shootout (TCLFlyers). The Flyers had plenty of chances, many coming from super star Claude Giroux. He just couldn't seem to buy a goal though (TCLFlyers). They'll hope for a better result when they host Toronto on Thursday. They practiced today in preparation for that game, and had a surprise guest in Chris Pronger (CSNPhilly).
A player who is still injured though is 22-year-old James van Riemsdyk. Because of his concussion, the Leafs are apparently no longer interested in him (CSNPhilly). With Luke Schenn now out of the mix, what are some likely moves the Flyers will now make prior to the trade deadline (Flyers Faithful)? Schenn might have been a good option for the Flyers as they definitely need to improve their defensive game (Flyers Faithful) .It was a minor trade, but the Flyers did send Kevin Marshall to the Capitals organization. What did he bring to the Hershey Bears (PennLive)?
The Flyers were hosts of the 2012 Winter Classic, and it was something special for them and their New York opponents. The Red Wings and Maple Leafs will get to experience the same thing in 2013. It has been rumored for a while (MLive), but the NHL will make it official tomorrow (The Hockey Guys).
The Flyers are closer to the Rangers, but the Devils are closer to the Flyers...
The Devils were 1-0 victors in New York last night (NHL.com). It was their 5th win in a row.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were in Montreal. They gained just one point, losing 3-2 in the shootout vs the Canadiens (The Checking Line).
The Islanders of course gained two points last night with a shootout win (TCL Isles). Last night, they also locked up one of the best defensive centers in the league, Frans Nielsen, for four more years (Light House Hockey). He will have a cap hit of $2.75M.
