The Flyers loss total is quickly increasing. After the second straight lost weekend in a row, head coach Peter Laviolette addressed the Flyers’ issues (SBNation Philly). If they hope to have a long spring, the Flyers will have to recapture the ‘swagger’ they had in the beginning of the season (CSNPhilly).
To add injury to insult, the Flyers’ inactive list is also growing. With James vanRiemsdyk already out with a concussion, 40-year-old Jaromir Jagr didn’t practice today and Jakub Voracek has been day-to-day since Saturday. Also, Andrej Meszaros was just ruled as day-to-day with an upper body injury (@sbaickerCSN). Voracek says he is feeling a little better each day, and hasn’t ruled out playing on Thursday (@BroadStBull).
James vanRiemsdyk did practice today and is making progress, but not ready to play just yet (Philly.com). He was in a regular practice jersey today (@BroadStBull). Jagr was home sick with the flu, which is partially to blame for his recent slump (CSNPhilly).
Because the Flyers are ailing and in need of a defenseman, trade deadline talk is once again the subject of the day. It has created a frenzy in Philadelphia (TCLFlyers), and Flyers fans are asking questions every day.
“What defenseman should the Flyers get?”...”Who will they have to give up?”...”Will any goaltenders be moved?”
Sure, Paul Holmgren has to get on the phone and make a deal for a defenseman, but is that all the Flyers need? It may not be the only position on their wish list this season (TCLFlyers). Adding both forwards and defensemen will be a good option. One rumor going around would for the Flyers to get Rick Nash, but he isn’t the answer for the Flyers (CSNPhilly).
The Rangers are continuing to soar above the rest of the division:
In their fourth win in a row, they took down the 34-18-2 Boston Bruins by a substantial difference. Henrik Lundqvist got another shutout in a 3-0 win (Blueshirt Banter). Brian Boyle, Rangers forward, was happy because he really hates the Bruins (NESN). Now nine points ahead of the second place Bruins, and 10 ahead of their rival Flyers, they continue to prove they’re an elite team (Blueshirt Banter).
The Devils also won, and grabbed an important two points vs the Sabres. Ilya Kovalchuk was the star of the game, netting three goal and one assist. It was a 4-1 victory for the guys in red and white (NHL.com).
The Islanders topped the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 3-1. Evgeni Nabokov was once again solid, and he had help from PA Parenteau who tallied a goal and assist (TCL Isles).
