Things may seem bad in Philadelphia right now. The Flyers have lost two in a row and are slumping, Zac Rinaldo was recently suspended (TCLFlyers), and the Rangers are pulling away in the standings. No one’s quite sure what exactly is wrong with the Flyers (Crimespree Hockey). However, it could be worse (TCLFlyers).
Talk of the deadline is always big around this time of year. The Flyers do want to grab a defenseman, for sure, but should the Flyers have a “win now” mentality or develop the team more wisely (Flyers Faithful)? It may be smarter to not make a panic move and grab a defenseman when there are so many other holes to fill (SBNation Philly).
One player rumored to be coming to Philadelphia may cost the Flyers a lot. Is Ryan Suter even worth it? An interesting study finds that Matt Carle, who has an interesting personality (The Hockey News), is just about as good as Suter (The Hockey Guys). Yes, you read that right. For as much as the Flyers have been considered buyers at the deadline, should they really be sellers (Philly.com)?
Mike Knuble was mostly remembered for his outstanding play in front of the net during his stay with Philadelphia. He is known for that in Washington, but has recently been benched for a bad reason: plus/minus. Dale Hunter has been criticized for benching players because of this, and rightfully so (Puck Daddy).
Not one Atlantic Division team played last night...
...but three will be in action tonight.
The New York Rangers will be in Boston for an Eastern Conference showdown (NHL.com).
Another good game will be in Buffalo, where the Devils and Sabres will battle each other. The Sabres are chasing an important two points in this game (In Lou We Trust).
In their third of fourth meetings, the New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets will face off in Winnipeg (NHL.com).
The Penguins will be at home tomorrow to vs the Ducks.
