The Flyers sure tamed the Wild last night, dominating Minnesota 5-1 (TCLFlyers). Shots from the point were key in the victory, along with the play of the special teams. Although he did let in one weak goal, Bryzgalov and his defense seemed to have bounce back (TCLFlyers). He stopped 25 shots he faced, and at times showed great puck vision skills during scrambles in front of the net.
Giroux got his 200th NHL point last night (NHLFlyers tweet), and the first line he centers got back on track (Times Herald).
If you were to give the top award for indivual Flyers player right now, though? Sean Couturier. Scoring in five consecutive games, Couturier is continuing to surge (TCLFlyers). I could write all the good things you could say about the kid, but you'd probably be here reading them all for a few hours.
Next opponents? The familiar faces of the New York Islanders. This will be their third of six meetings this year, and the second in just over a week (NHL.com). The Flyers will be happy to be home this time (TCLFlyers). They practiced at their home rink today at noon (NHLFlyers tweet), preparing for tomorrow night's matchup.
The Flyers needed that game, as every other Atlantic Division team won as well:
It was the last place Islanders getting a road win at Washington, 3-0 (TCL Isles).
The other New York team, the Rangers, also got a 3-0 win. They were up against the Preds (Blue Shirt Banter).
Another one-sided game was between the Devils and the Jets. The Devils took a 5-1 victory at home (NHL.com).
The only close game was in Pittsburgh, where the Penguins took on the Hurricanes, a game which went to a shootout. A 2-1 victory kept the Pens withing two of the Devils (Post Gazette).
