Holmgren Tells Inquirer Laviolette Will Not Get Fired

It's going to be a longer off season for the Flyers than they're used to.

Among the topics heading into the off season is the job security of head coach Peter Laviolette. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren reassured the safety of his head coach.

Via Sam Carchidi's article this morning:

"I haven't even thought along those lines," Holmgren told The Inquirer in a phone conversation. "I think it's been a difficult year because of the situation. We haven't had our whole team all year. I don't blame the coaches.

Habs Host Skidding Flyers

The Flyers travel to Montreal in hopes of ending their four-game losing streak. It won't be easy though because Montreal is a great home team as well as looking to lock up second place in the Eastern Conference.

Enroth Shuts Out Flyers

There is only one way to kill the momentum of a four-game winning streak and that is to follow it up with a four-game losing streak.

The Flyers continued on their skid, dropping their fourth straight game. They lost to Buffalo, 1-0, Saturday afternoon, pushing them closer to mathematical elimination from the post season.

In the last four games, the Flyers were out-scored 12-3. The power play had also fizzled, going 0-for-2 on the night to continue their skid to 0-for-15.

Flyers Head to Buffalo in Matinee

The Flyers head to Buffalo where they face another team in a similar position. Both teams have some decent ground to make up in the standings with such little time left. Whoever wins this game could give themselves good momentum or a false sense of hope.

Flyers' Nightmare Reaches Its Conclusion

The Philadelphia Flyers' season is likely over.

After dropping a 3-1 decision to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, they find themselves seven points back of the final playoff spot with eight games to go, needing a bevy of extremely unlikely circumstances to occur for them to even slide into the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.

"We have a game coming up," head coach Peter Laviolette said after the loss. "We need to win hockey games and focus on the next one."

That may be the only thing the Flyers can do—just try to win with what they have.

Senators Snap Five-Game Skid; Beat Fading Flyers 3-1

The Ottawa Senators came into Philadelphia desperately needing a win to right the ship in a bad way and they delivered.

The Flyers, still with a glimmer of hope left for a playoff berth, did not deliver and wasted a great game by Ilya Bryzgalov. Dominated for 60 minutes the Flyers lost 3-1 to Ottawa Thursday night.

This was the second time the Flyers couldn't take advantage of a team on a major losing skid in the last three games.

On Saturday, the Flyers enabled the Winnipeg Jets to snap a five-game losing streak by dropping the game, 4-1. Ottawa was on a five-game losing streak heading into tonight.

Concussion Update: Briere Could Play Thursday; Grossmann Out Another 2-3 Weeks

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren gave reporters some updates today concerning injured forward Danny Briere and defenseman Nicklas Grossmann, both battling concussions.

Holmgren said that of all the injured players, Briere has the best chance of playing Thursday against the Senators. He sounded optimistic in his assessment of Briere's situation.
